Kimono at Munson Williams
Thursday September 6th, 2018 Preswick Glen residents were treated to a beautiful tour of the Kimono at Munson Williams with Preswick Glen’s very own Rose Hosp as our docent. Kimono! The Artistry of Itchiku Kubota features 48 magnificent handcrafted pictorial kimono created by internationally recognized artist Itchiku Kubota. Kubota’s vision transformed traditional Japanese garments into works of art. Each of the kimono in the exhibition is nearly seven feet in height and embellished with intricate detailing created through complex dyeing techniques and embroidery, accented by gold and silver leaf and hand painting. Many of the kimono were conceived as a series and are installed together to create panoramic vistas manifesting Kubota’s reverence for terrestrial and cosmic landscapes. What a great tour and amazing display of art by this amazing artist. If anyone has a chance to stop by Munson Williams and see this gorgeous display of the Kimono, make sure you take a look at all the detail and time that went into making just one of the 48 magnificent pieces that are displayed.
